vBulletin 6.1.1 is now available to download. In the upcoming weeks, vBulletin Cloud customers will be automatically upgraded to the new version.

Front End Changes

Forum Card View

Administrators can choose to display forums in tabular or card formats. The Channel Display Module offers an option to select the format.

Card View shows a simplified layout of your forum channels with a modern appearance. It is controlled by a module option. This simplified view will not show Categories unless the module's forum depth is set to 1. Entering the forum will show its sub-forums.

Due to the simplified view, the Card format is more suitable for sites with a simple channel structure.

If you use custom channel icons for your forums, you can set the module to use these in the card background. This option will use the existing image to fill the background.

Due to this change, the forum list display no longer uses HTML Tables. It uses CSS Grid for layout. If you have applied custom CSS to the older table formatting, they may no longer have any effect. You can find the CSS for the forum list in the css_forum.css template.

Edit Content Type

Users with permission to edit Topic Starter posts can now edit the content type of these posts. The system will allow you to convert one content type to another. Any metadata for the original content type will be discarded and lost. Examples of metadata include photo gallery images, links to external sites, poll options and results, and event information. You will not be able to retrieve this metadata information after conversion.

The most common request for this feature is to switch a Link/Video topic into a Text topic.

Users with the "Can Edit Posts" permission can access this feature.

Transition Style

The vBulletin 5 Transition Style template has been updated to include newer features added to vBulletin 6.X. This includes the recently introduced Bookmark feature. Other fixes included improving the editing content and refactoring the javascript.

The developers added the transitionary style to allow customers to upgrade their custom styles to the vBulletin 6 format. We recommend moving to one of the vBulletin 6 themes to guarantee feature compatibility in the future.
