How effective is forum signatures?

One of ways some forum owners use to promote their forum on other forums is by using forum signatures. Some forum owners doesn't allow it to be used on their while others don't mind. Do you think other forum members pay attention to those signatures?

Well, it depends on the forums you have your signature on display. If it's a forum with a lot of activities, it's going to be very effective in helping you to promote your forum. But if it's not a forum with great activity, it's a lost cause.

Perhaps, it's one of the best ways to promote your forum across other forums without doing much but only making posts in several forum every now and then. I love using it in forums as long as it's allowed.
